Next to Normal is a musical show, one of the biggest Broadway hits of recent years. He is the winner of three Tony Awards and the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
The Italian version of Next to Normal lands in Italy thanks to the forward-looking project of STM in collaboration with Compagnia della Rancia, directed by Marco Iacomelli and produced by Andrea Manara and Davide Ienco. Next to Normal originated in 1998 in the United States as a mere ten-minute workshop entitled Feeling Electric. Ten years later, the step between the first Off performance and Broadway enshrinement is a short one: the musical debuted at the Booth Theatre in the spring of 2009, and a special version of the show was tweeted in short, one-hundred-and-forty-character messages each until the morning of June 7, when-after no fewer than eleven nominations-it won three awards at the 2009 Tony Awards. Already in this we can see the disruptive, modern and innovative power of Next to Normal. Indeed, this musical represents a breaking point, a small revolution in the world of Musical Theater, for which director Marco Iacomelli is a spokesman. Next to Normal reveals the goal of staging an innovative theatrical product that addresses themes sometimes distant from the Italian tradition of the genre.
