The show, winner in 2010 of two Tony Awards® and the Grammy Award® for Best Musical Show Album, is based on the 2004 platinum album of the same name, which has sold more than 15 million copies worldwide to date.

The Italian production of Green Day’s American Idiot, co-produced by STM – Scuola del Teatro Musicale, Fondazione Teatro Carlo Coccia di Novara and Reverse Agency, with the support of Fondazione CRT, is part of the revolutionary Italian strand of contemporary musical theater, as Next to Normal, also directed by Marco Iacomelli in 2015, which deals with themes far removed from the Italian tradition of the genre.

Love and rebellion according to the most celebrated U.S. punk rock band: Green Day’s American Idiot chronicles the growth of three young friends, Johnny, Will and Tunny, as they search for meaning in their lives in a heavily media-influenced, intoxicated and dead-end society.

In September 2009 Green Day’s American Idiot, directed by Michael Mayer, for which it also won the Drama Desk Award, debuted at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in Green Day’s hometown, becoming a hit Broadway show at the St. James Theatre after 6 months. In London it debuted in 2015 at the Arts Theatre under the direction of Racky Plews.

An emotional journey through the 13 songs from the concept album American Idiot, with some songs from the album 21st Century Breakdown released in 2009 and one previously unreleased song. The show is a crescendo of memorable and engaging songs filled with the power of Green Day, from 21 Guns which is already a video clip with the Italian cast of the musical, Jesus of Suburbia, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Holiday and the blockbuster title American Idiot, as well as Good Riddance, better known as Time of Your Life.
