The School of Musical Theatre sparks the spark between cartoonist Sio and the star of tick, tick… BOOM! Nicolò Bertonelli, who present an all-comics musical.

The President of Scuola del Teatro Musicale, Davide Ienco, on the occasion of the launch of the musical tick, tick… BOOM! became the promoter of the artistic collaboration between Nicolò Bertonelli and Sio, which resulted in the project of The Generic Musical, a cartoon that “debuts” as a real musical on the YouTube platform on November 30, 2022. The video was conceived and created by Sio, one of the most famous Italian web cartoonists; Fabio Antonelli, musician and composer; and Nicolò Bertonelli, a young talent and tiktoker now touring with tick,tick… BOOM! produced by STM.

Here is how the three creatives tell, in their distinctive style, the plot of the video: “The Generic Musical tells the story of the journey of the Protagonist who, by doing things, tries to prevent certain actions that might have consequences from being carried out by the Antagonist which will lead them to a physical and/or moral duel.”

The meeting between Nicolò Bertonelli, Sio and Fabio Antonelli took place on the occasion of the interview for the presentation of tick, tick… BOOM! for Fabio Antonelli’s SuonA Tipo Bene podcast, during which the three discovered that they share a passion for musicals.

Sio is one of the most popular Italian cartoonists on the Internet, with a YouTube channel of more than 2.3 million subscribers. His comic strips (Scottecs Megazine, Evviva che bello!) have sold more than a million copies. In the past he has written songs such as Bruco Gianluco, Il ballo dell’estate, Sette ore di squali, Young Cagnolino , and Estate al fiume (together with Fabio Antonelli), which have racked up tens of millions of listens on YouTube.

Nicolò Bertonelli in 2016 made his television debut in the successful Rai Uno series Braccialetti Rossi in the role of one of the main characters (Bobo). In 2019 he was one of the main characters in the Mediaset series Oltre la soglia as Bruno, and in 2021 he made his film debut in the movie The Christmas Show as Edo, alongside Raoul Bova and Serena Autieri.

Fabio Antonelli is a composer and multi-instrumentalist, author of music in Italy, the US and China. His collaborations include: Cartoon Network, Rodeo Drive, CCTV, Rai, and photographer Steve McCurry.

He collaborates regularly with cartoonist Sio, even setting music to his first animated short La mosca più grande del mondo. Ѐ, also, the author of the podcast SuonA Tipo Bene with over 300,000 listens in Italy.

The Generic Musical was born thanks to the push of the Scuola del Teatro Musicale, producer of tick, tick… BOOM! which, after winning over audiences in Milan will conclude the tour in Bevagna, Bergamo and Brescia.

Nicolo Bertonelli plays Jon, the main character, on stage with him are six other performers, all graduates or student actors of STM, which, in addition to being an AFAM training center recognized by the Ministry of Research and permanently residing in prestigious theaters, has professionally produced the shows Next to Normal, Green Day’s American Idiot, Oklahoma!, Le Nozze di Figaro, Ami & Tami, and Dead Poet Society.
